Promega UK Gains ISO 14001 Accreditation
April 2024
Promega UK is proud to announce that it has received its first accreditation to the ISO 14001 standard: Environmental Management Systems.
Achieving the ISO 14001 certification represents a significant milestone for any organisation, but it’s not always obvious what the accreditation means and why it is valuable. The International Standards Organisation, which publishes the standard, states on its website that its standards are formulas that describe the best way of doing something, agreed upon by an international panel of experts. Adherence to the standard is not assumed though – independent auditors come into an organisation that wishes to gain accreditation, to ensure that it is following both the ISO standard and the organisation’s own internal policies.
"We are determined to make more efficient use of resources and to reduce waste."

Sean Donnelly, Operations Director at Promega UK, said:
“In practice, this standard helps organisations understand their environmental impact, local laws, and regulations, and how to work to continuously improve environmental performance. At Promega UK, we strive to set ambitious goals, to engage employees, and to adopt new technologies. We are determined to make more efficient use of resources and to reduce waste, so it is extremely rewarding to see the efforts we have already made being recognised. From installing EV chargers for employee use, to employee-led sustainability groups and even reusable hand towels in our offices, we are always looking for new ways to reduce our impact.”
Independent auditing helps give confidence that our actions match our intent. Customers can have confidence that when they do business with us, they are dealing with a responsible partner committed to action. Employees know that they are working for a business that truly values the environment in which we live.
“Obtaining our first ISO 14001 certification is not just an accolade: it is a testament to our dedication to environmental stewardship. Customers are increasingly seeking out partners who prioritise sustainability, not just in their mission statements but in their operational practices. Our certification is a clear signal that we are aligned with their values,” says Derek McCall, Managing Director of Promega UK.
Obtaining an ISO certification is an important step on the journey, but it is not the destination. We continue to bring forward plans to reduce our impact further. We are excited to bring renewable energy generation on site; our project to install solar PV at our Facility is nearly complete, and we are finalising plans to fully electrify our vehicle fleet by 2028.
"A testament to our dedication to environmental stewardship".
